 What our Guests say

We travelled in our campervan, from Scotland to Bosnia in Herzegovina, and planned on staying one night at the River Bara Campsite. However we were still on the site 3 days later, as we did not want to leave. We spent a magical 4 days in this special place, which is close to the source of the River Bara. The source of the river has been described as one of the finest examples of underground karst rivers in Europe. The deep blue source water flows from a cave under a 200m vertical cliff and creates a spectacular backdrop to the 'teke', a 16thC Sufi monastery for the Dervish Brotherhood. Until 1952, when the Monastery was closed, fishing or hunting the eagles and other wildlife on the mountain was not allowed. This place was special to the Sufi, who believe in the interconnectedness of man, nature and God, and it is easy to understand why. The cliffs and the water are an inseparable part of the Sufi religion. This is a place to unwind and become intertwined with nature.

We found Camp River Bura the perfect place to relax, under the shade of the trees, with the cooling breeze of the river. The campsite is located 10 minutes from the source and the river flows alongside the campsite. As the water is around 8 degrees it becomes a natural air conditioner and cools the air during the hottest of days and nights. After the heat of a visit to Mostar, it is pleasant to unwind, under the shade of the trees, next to the river. The campsite is in an ideal position for sightseeing in Mostar, being 20 minutes and on the regular bus route to the town. The old town of Mostar must be seen, for the history, culture and shopping in the bazaars.

Camp Bura is the perfect place to relax, under the trees next to the cooling breeze of the river. You will receive a warm and friendly welcome from the campsite owner, Tarik, who can provide good information on the local area and the many places of interest to visit. The facilities are basic, but clean, with toilet and shower block and fully equipped kitchen. You will find Tarik to be a most attentive host and he is a lovely young man. There is an area with table and chairs, with a BBQ grill that can be used by guests. The little town of Blagaj has souvenir stalls, a mini-market and good restaurants nearby, where you can sample traditional Bosnian in Herzegovinian food and local specialities of fresh fish from the river. I can thoroughly recommend the grilled trout. We spent a most enjoyable time here and will definitely be back one day.
